Battle Of The Big Guns Set To Kick-Off?

Battle Of The Big Guns Set To Kick-Off?

With all the full-frame mirrorless models that have been released recently, photographers could be forgiven for taken their eye off the top-of-the-range DSLR big guns that have helped Nikon and Canon be the brands of choice for professional sports and wildlife photographers for years.

Canon's 1DX Mark II was released back in February 2016 and its big rival, the Nikon D5, was launched just a month earlier. Both cameras have been popular, but as both brands tend to release new models on an approximate four-year cycle, both models are also due for an upgrade.

Canon's 1DX MkII offers a 20-megapixel full-frame sensor and can shoot up to 16 frames per second.

Now rumour sites have sprang into life to suggest the new models from each brand could arrive ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo – arguably the world’s biggest sporting event.

Nikon's D5 features a 21-megapixel full-frame sensor and can shoot 14 frames per second.

Brands have used big events like the Olympics to test out new pro-spec action cameras before so this timeframe could well be plausible, but this time around Canon and Nikon could have another new rival to battle with by the time the starting gun for the 100 metres final fires.

Users of Sony’s awesome a9 camera - which is a 24-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera that can capture 20 frames per second and also features 5-axis IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) in a body that weighs just 693g - could also see a new version launched in time for the Olympics. The a9 is newer than the 1DX MkII/Nikon D5 as it was launched in 2017, but Sony tends to update cameras more regularly than other rivals.

Sony's a9 is the newer kid on the block and the full-frame mirrorless camera offers a 24-megapixel sensor.

No concrete facts have been released, but we’ll keep you informed when more information breaks. Until then though. . . let us know which of the three possible new models (Canon, Nikon or Sony) would you be most excited to see?

Review: Nikon D7500

I came to Chris before a big vacation, and asked a simple question, “Do you have a good quality camera a total novice could use that needs a review?”. Twenty minutes later, he handed me the Nikon D7500 and a Nikkor lens, set up a few features, and said “ You'll want to keep the Fstop to about 4. thephoblographer.com »
