There's always been a lot of debate about whether you should put protective UV filters on the front of your lens. The benefit is obvious: they protect the front element of your pricey lens.

Detractors say that sometimes you shouldn't use them at all, or that they can even degrade the quality of your image.

Roger Cicala of Lensrentals tested twenty filters and chose the best ten, ranging from $20 for a Hoya to $156 for a Heliopan.
