Product of the Year 2021: the results The final round of voting has closed and a winner has been chosen in our annual Readers' Choice Awards! Beginning in December, DPR readers picked their favorite cameras, zoom lenses and prime lenses released in 2021.
The winners of that initial round of voting were then pitted against each other for the title of Product of the Year. Take a look and see which products came out on top.
Third place: Tamron 35-150mm F2-2. 8 Di III VXD
The Tamron 35-150mm F2-2. 8 Di III VXD was one of the most popular lenses of 2021 with our readers, and for good reason. It's a sharp, well-built zoom covering a useful focal length range, with a bright enough aperture for great subject/background separation at all focal lengths. Aimed specifically at portrait and events shooters, the Tamron 35-150mm F2-2. 8 Di III VXD fills a useful gap for Sony E-mount shooters, and with 12. 6% of the total vote, it earned third place in our 2021 reader poll for best product.
Runner up: Sony a1
With 25. 8% of the total vote, the runner-up spot in this year's Readers' Poll for product of the year goes to the Sony a1. It's hard to imagine a camera packing more technology into such a small form factor as the Sony a1. Brimming with features, the a1 is a true 'do everything' model with the speed and autofocus power to handle sports and action, and enough resolution and dynamic range for landscapes. The a1 isn't a cheap camera by any means, but for enthusiasts and professionals who need the ultimate in versatility, it's worth the asking price.
Winner: Nikon Z9
Taking home a whopping 53. 7% of the total vote, the Nikon Z9 ran away with the winning spot in this year's final Readers' Poll. The Z9 might be Nikon's most eagerly anticipated camera ever, and with the first units starting to ship last month, photographers are finally getting the chance to see for themselves whether it was worth the wait. Clearly, judging by the amount of votes it attracted in our polls this year it has piqued the interest of our readers.
As well it should – the Z9 is one of the most powerful digital cameras we've ever seen, offering a combination of features that put it up there with the best products in its class, at an MSRP that undercuts its main competition. We'll be publishing more sample images, and analysis of the Z9 in the coming days, so keep an eye on our homepage for more soon.
