Although smartphone lenses have always been a little cumbersome, one well-known optics company has produced a stellar smartphone lens accessory this year, and ExoLens has now unveiled its updated version for the iPhone 7.
Designed in conjunction with Zeiss and originally unveiled at CES in January, the ExoLens for iPhone was very well-received this year, and the company is introducing an additional set of accessory lenses called 'Prime' lineup. The original lineup of lenses will be updated and branded as’ Pro. ’ In a photography sense, that’s certainly not going to be confusing.
The ‘Prime’ selection now focuses on “artistic expression and non-technical social sharing,” according to ExoLens, and pricing is currently unavailable. The updated ‘Pro’ lineup will be ambitiously aimed more toward professional photographers.
The ‘Pro’ offering features three lenses; a wide, a telephoto and a macro-zoom. Each lens features an ExoLens Edge machined aluminum mount, as well as a key ring loop. The wide-angle and telephoto kits (both sporting Zeiss Mutar glass) will retail for US$199. 99 and US$249. 99, respectively, and will be available in December.
The Pro Macro-Zoom Lens, featuring a variable focal length of 40 to 80 millimeters, will follow in January for US$199 bundled with the lens mount bracket. The macro lens kit is designed for photographing items that measure between 3cm and 12cm.
The ‘Prime’ lineup, which will likely be aimed at a cheaper price point, will be released in the first quarter of 2017. It will feature a Telephoto 2x, Wide-Angle 0. 6x, and Super Wide-Angle/Macro combo lenses. More information can be found on the ExoLens site here.
