Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad has announced the XCD 120mm; it’s one of four new lenses the company plans on adding to their growing smorgasbord of XCD kit. /HasselbladThe upcoming compact macro lens boasts a f/3.

5 to f/32 aperture range. It will be useful for both up-close and personal work to a 1:2 image scale but should also function fine as a mid-range telephoto lens. The auto and manual focusing will be able to go from 1:2 to infinity without any extension tubes needed. That doesn’t mean the XCD 120mm is gonna be a fantastic first choice street shooter or landscape lens by any means but it can possibly hold its own for portraiture or other work where a longer focal length us required in a pinch.

Speaking on its versatility, Hasselblad’s Product Manager, Ove Bengtson, stated, “The XCD 120mm Macro lens complements the existing XCD dedicated autofocus lenses which were developed to support optical quality and portability. ”

Another interesting feature of not for the XCD 120mm, is that it has an integral central shutter, meaning there will be plenty of options for shutter speeds and full flash synchronisation, going all the way up to 1/2000th of a second.

This announcement follows the earth shattering success of Hasselblad’s X1D camera launch in 2016, Over the coming year, Hasselblad is going to be releasing more lenses to the compatible XCD lens range. Specifically the XCD 35-75mm Zoom, the XCD 65mm, and the XCD 22mm Wide Angle. The company has stated that its grand plan is that by 2018, the X1D will have seven dedicated XCD lenses available to it and (by using the XH lens adapter) a further twelve HC/HCD lenses.
