So far the only way of uploading an image to Instagram has been to use service's Android or iOS mobile apps. The mobile website only allowed for browsing, searching and liking of images and viewing of notifications.
However, Instagram has made a major change, allowing users to upload images through its mobile website. The latter comes with a new photo upload button but it appears the change is being rolled out incrementally, so depending on where you are in the world you might not see it yet. A new Explore tab is rolling out on the web as well.
The bad news is that the change is limited to the mobile website. The Desktop version won't offer the upload feature which means that photographers who want to upload images that have been processed on a computer still need to use slightly creative workflows to display them on the image sharing service. Instagram says the new feature is designed to provide a fuller experience of the service to users who are limited in terms of cellular connectivity or data volume.
