Laowa, the third-party lens manufacturer, has released a new optic that’s specially built for use on DJI drones such as the popular Inspire 2. The Laowa 9mm f/2. 8 Zero-D DL is an ultra-wide lens made for DJI’s X7 cameras (DL mount) and gives a massive field of view of 113-degrees.
Featuring a design that includes 15 elements in 10 groups with two pieces of aspherical element glass and three pieces of extra-low dispersion element glass, the lens is also very lightweight, tipping the scales at just 210g. The design also features a 49mm thread, enabling users to attach ND filters.
The fast maximum aperture of f/2. 8 means the lens will be very useful in low light conditions and will facilitate night-time flying. Laowa say the lens ‘is carefully designed to reduce the optical distortion to a close-to-zero level. It allows straight lines to be perfectly retained and saves videographers tremendous time in post-processing. ’
The lens is currently the widest on offer for the X7 cameras and opens up more creative opportunities to capture wider views of amazing landscapes. The Laowa 9mm f/2. 8 Zero-D DL is available to order now and the brand have released a US price-tag, which will be $499 (excluding tax).
To get photographers and videographers really excited though, Laowa have also release a number of sample aerial images taken on the Laowa 9mm f/2. 8 Zero-D DL, which look amazing!
Better still, there’s also a number of short videos showing what the lens can offer videographers, which you can see below. . .
