“My earliest memories of nature are of the sea,” the French artist Natalia Kovachevski tells me. “Growing up as a Mediterranean girl, I was convinced I was a mermaid and a witch–a wild woman, part-animal, with an affinity for the natural world.”

"I wanted to normalize the emotions that I and so many others feel," says photographer Kimberly Kizzia about the mental struggles she and countless others experience daily. Acknowledging and acceptance of mental health issues are unfortunately not that widespread today.
"People don't like change, especially changing their views," notes Dallas-based photographer Cherisha Kay Norman about the lack of adaptability of society to changes around them. As someone who has gone through many mental illnesses herself, she feels there needs to be more open and transparent discussion around the topics.
“I find self portrait work to be both healing and inspiring,” says Chinelle Ro. She continues, “it helps to channel thoughts and feelings, positive and negative, into creating reflective art. ” We’ve been around a while here at The Phoblographer.
