Planet Earth II Trailer: Earth Porn at its Finest

The BBC has released the first bit of tantalising footage of what we can expect from Planet Earth II when it airs next month in the UK. The second iteration of this award-winning series comes a decade after Planet Earth aired.

At the time, it was the first nature documentary to be filmed in HD and the most expensive ever - costing US$25 million to produce.

Planet Earth II will continue to push the benchmark for documentary filmmaking by taking advantage of the latest in camera stabilisation and aerial drone technology. It was an epic undertaking, which saw the BBC teams ship Ultra-HD cameras to 64 countries over the course of four years.

Sir David Attenborough also returns to narrate the six episodes, which will capture intimate 4K footage of the animals and biomes that inhabit our shared planet; one episode will even focus on animals thriving in man-made habitats.

“It will be a truly immersive experience,” says executive producer Mike Gunton, who expects viewers to be blown away after seeing the new series. Gunton told the press that Planet Earth II will be unique, immersive and a game-changer for how documentaries are produced - based on the trailer, we’re inclined to agree.

Planet Earth II will air on BBC One in November. Details regarding an international air date have yet to be announced, although Netflix has snagged the syndication rights for 2019.
