There's something about the square format portrait that I think lends itself to being perfect for anything. In fact, there are a ton of reasons why. Unfortunately, it isn't always as widely accepted in the photography communtiy despite there being validation for the format.

Square format simplifies shooting because you never have to rotate the camera. You can edit the image to any format you like. I always preferred rectangular prints. Square format, such as the 6×6 Rolleiflex, looked wrong to me. petapixel.com »
